According to Mohan Dev Sukumar, studied at Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur:
Let me tell you a story.
Akash and Ruby fell in love with each other at college. They were so inseparable that they triggered jealousy among other committed couples. But when it was time to graduate, Ruby chose to leave the country for higher studies while Akash stayed behind. Their long distance relationship successfully worked for a few months until Ruby met Mayank.
Mayank was hardworking and ambitious. Ruby developed a sense of respect for him and began to boast about his personality to Akash. Little did she know about the insecurity being developed in Akash. Ruby went on to become a good friend to Mayank.
Time came for Akash to reveal his feelings; he strongly insisted Ruby cut her friendship with Mayank. Ruby was hurt by Akash not trusting her. She stopped taking Akash's calls. Irritated and frustrated by her attitude, Akash abused her via text. Days later, he apologized for what he had done and she forgave him.
On one weekend, Ruby visited Niagara falls with Mayank without informing Akash. To her bad luck Akash came to know about this through the tagged photos uploaded by Mayank on Facebook. The insecurity that had been sleeping in Akash had arisen. Ruby wanted to explain but Akash wouldn't hear her. Days later, she apologized for what she had done and he forgave her.
This excuse cycle repeated several times, and each time their relationship weakened. They eventually broke up. Both were hurt and heartbroken.
Months later, Ruby married a guy from IIMA chosen by her parents. Mayank was busy with his startup; and Akash came to understand that his insecurity was just stupid. Akash could not forgive himself for losing his love. He also blamed Ruby for not trying harder to clear up the misunderstandings. He lost his trust and faith in love altogether.
Years later, Akash started to like Deepa whom he met through mutual friends. This time, he didn't rush anything; both talked for hours, and accepted each other's good and bad. Their bond got stronger with time and finally, Akash found love again, a better and improved one.
In this story, Akash's break-up had taught him the difference between wanting love and growing love. Only the lessons he had learnt from his previous relationship made him realize that the full potential of love comes from cultivating it. If not for his first love, he would never have made room in his heart for true love. Yes, we can strongly fall in love again, but only through the courtesy of our first love.
